Take any tune and independently choose:

Harmony: simple / reharmonized Rhythm: straight / swing / bossa / waltz / groove Texture: sparse / block / contrapuntal / ostinato Register: compact / wide Mode: major / minor / modal Form: direct / intro / breakdown / tag

Changing even two dimensions can completely transform a melody.

That is much closer to the original goal of making multiple convincing versions of the same tune.
