Workshop 95 — Arranging by Ear from a Recording: Extracting Melody, Bass, Harmony, Groove, Texture, and Form Without Depending on a Lead Sheet
Workshop 94 focused on touch, articulation, dynamics, and pedal—the final layer that turns notes into musical voices.
Now we move toward one of the largest practical goals of the whole course:
hearing a recording and turning what you hear into your own playable arrangement.
Not:
“find the correct chord chart.”
Not:
“transcribe every note exactly.”
But:
identify what is structurally important, reconstruct the musical logic, and then decide what your two hands actually need to reproduce.

The central lesson is:
Do not try to hear everything at once. A recording is a stack of musical layers. Learn to separate those layers, understand their roles, and rebuild only what the arrangement actually needs.
