At the beginning of our course, “arranging” might have meant:

find the right chords under the melody.

Now it means:

choose a form, bass behavior, groove, harmonic density, texture, register, intensity arc, substitutions, transition strategy, solo vocabulary, and ending.

That is a completely different level of musical ownership.
