Choose C major first.

Play:

C → F → G → C

Repeat several times.

Listen to the functions:

C = home

F = moving somewhere

G = wants resolution

C = arrival

Now in G:

G → C → D → G

Then D:

D → G → A → D

Try to hear the same emotional architecture.

That's more useful than identifying each chord by pitch alone.
