In classical-style writing, you generally pay more attention to preserving independence between voices and avoiding excessive parallel perfect fifths/octaves.

In jazz/pop, parallel movement is much more freely used.

For our practical arranging:

Don't become afraid of parallels, but listen for whether the voices sound independent or blocky.
