When reading a chart, classify your understanding as:
Certain
“G7 clearly resolves to C.”
Probable
“Em7♭5 likely begins a minor ii–V.”
Ambiguous
“This slash/chromatic chord may be more about line/color.”
This is healthy harmonic thinking.
You do not need every chord to have one definitive explanation.
