Write 16 bars:

• bars 1–8: G Phrygian-dominant pedal
• bars 9–12: increase tension without changing bass
• bars 13–14: functional dominant becomes unmistakable
• bars 15–16: C-minor arrival

Requirements:

• one ostinato
• one ♭9→3 melodic cell
• one sus→dominant C→B event
• one diminished fragment
• one sustained ♭13 that becomes Cm's minor 3rd
• no more than two actual bass roots in the entire piece

This is a powerful exercise.
