76.110Apply it to “Happy Birthday”

Because the melody is public domain, use it as a phrase laboratory.

The tune already has four clear phrases.

Now create an improvised variation where:

Phrase 1: question.

Phrase 2: answer but not full closure.

Phrase 3: longest phrase and climax.

Phrase 4: shorter, calmer consequence.

Then create a second pass where a fill begins before phrase 2 ends and leads into phrase 3.

You are now arranging phrase relationships, not just notes and chords.
