Because the tune is so familiar, it is ideal for testing how little harmony you need.

Phrase 1: melody + bass.

Phrase 2: add one guide tone.

Phrase 3: climax—richer drop-2 support on only the strongest notes.

Phrase 4: reduce.

Final melody note can arrive first.

Then a quiet C6/9 afterward.

The simplicity will make the reharmonized moments more audible.
