While performing, do not consciously ask all of these constantly.
But in practice develop awareness of:
- Where am I in the form?
- Where is this phrase going?
- What is foreground?
- What is the bass doing?
- Is harmony clear enough?
- Am I repeating myself?
- Is intensity rising or falling?
- What resource have I not used yet?
- What can I remove?
- What is the next safe landmark?
Eventually these become intuitive.
