78.100The practical rule
When moving from chord A to chord B:
do not ask first:
“What is my voicing for chord B?”
Ask:
Which notes from chord A can stay, which should move by semitone or whole step, and which single voice—if any—should make the expressive leap?
Then identify the resulting voicing.
