78.95Mini-composition exercise
Write 24 bars where upper-voice motion generates most of the harmonic sophistication.
Requirements:
- at least one ii–V–I with three-note RH voicings
- one common tone surviving three harmonies
- one A→A♭→G top line
- one E→E♭→D line
- one G7alt upper structure resolving by three individually planned voices
- one sus→dominant→altered progression
- one tritone substitution where most RH notes remain
- one borrowed iv with a smooth chromatic inner line
- one chromatically planed upper structure
- one half-step modulation voiced mostly by semitone motion
- one deliberate large melodic leap after several bars of minimal motion
The listener should hear rich harmony, but the pianist should feel surprisingly little physical motion.
