Functional

Modal

center remains but directional function weakens.

Linear

voice-leading determines chord succession.

Pedal

stable bass organizes changing upper colors.

Polychordal

two harmonic layers coexist.

Symmetrical

equal interval structures weaken unique root/direction.

These are not mutually exclusive.

A passage can combine them.
