Because we can use the melody directly, start with a jazzier C-major version.

Phrase 1:

LH roots/5ths on strong beats.

Melody alone for most notes.

One RH inner chord only after melody pauses.

Phrase 2:

introduce bass anticipation.

Phrase 3:

climax—allow one synchronized block hit.

Then immediately separate again.

Phrase 4:

melody reaches final C first.

Bass tonic follows.

Quiet inner C6/9 arrives last.

The famous tune suddenly feels far less “piano-boxed.”
