30.21Melodic inversion
This is different from chord inversion.
A melodic interval going up becomes the corresponding interval going down, and vice versa.
Suppose:
C → E → D
Intervals:
up M3
down M2.
Invert around C:
C → A♭ → B♭
approximately:
down M3
up M2.
The contour becomes mirrored.
