Polyrhythm

two different rhythmic subdivisions occur over the same meter.

Example:

3 against 2.

Polymeter

different meters seem to occur simultaneously.

Example:

one part repeats a 3-beat pattern while another repeats a 4-beat pattern.

We’ll use both concepts lightly.
