11.9Melody must stay above the harmonic complexity

If the melody note is G and your inner voicing contains:

A♭, B, D♭, E

all near it,

the melody can disappear.

So when harmony gets chromatic:

reduce the number of inner voices.

Paradoxically, more sophisticated harmony often needs fewer notes.
