5.4Predominant = prepares the dominant

The most obvious predominant in C is:

IV = F

F major:

F A C

F A C

Play:

F → G7 → C

F → G7 → C

It feels very natural.

F does not feel like home.

It also does not feel as tense as G7.

It feels like:

we have left home and are moving toward something.

That is predominant function.
