16.15Rhythm creates identity

Take three notes:

C-D-E

Play:

short-short-long.

Then repeat the same rhythm with:

E-F-G

Then:

A-G-E

The listener hears them as related because of the rhythm.

This is why improvisation practice should not be only about pitches.
