20.64A useful “wrong chord” test

If a chord technically contains the melody note but sounds wrong, ask:

• wrong function?
• wrong bass?
• phrase direction?
• too much tension?
• not enough tension?

For example, melody A in C can fit Am, F, Dm.

Only context tells you which is right.
