Suppose destination is C.

Basic:

G7 → C

Add ii:

Dm7 → G7 → C

Go one step further:

A7 → Dm7 → G7 → C

Go further:

Em7 → A7 → Dm7 → G7 → C

Now we have a chain of fifths.

This is called back-cycling.
