A very useful default in C:

| Cmaj7 | A7 | Dm7 | G7 |

Then melody begins on C harmony.

This is:

I → V7/ii → ii → V7

The G7 points strongly into the first C.

Try:

Cmaj7 | A7 | Dm7 | G7 || Cmaj7...

This immediately sounds arranged.
