9.46Level 9 — melody as color

When melody sits over D7, identify each note:

D = root

E = 9

F♯ = 3

G♯ = ♯11

A = 5

B = 13

C = ♭7.

This is a very useful exercise because the tune’s melodic language often interacts beautifully with this dominant color.
