Now take our original laboratory melody.

Instead of traditional C major harmony:

put it over a D Dorian-style vamp after transposing appropriately.

Or make it C Dorian:

C D E♭ F G A B♭.

Keep melody recognizable but alter major 3rd where necessary.

Use:

C pedal

quartal voicings

one rhythmic ostinato.

Suddenly “Happy Birthday” becomes a modal jazz performance without requiring elaborate chord substitution.

That is a major Nahre-Sol-style transformation:

change the harmonic system itself, not merely the chords.
