We often imagine harmony as:
vertical blocks placed on a timeline.
But real performance is more flexible.
A harmonic change may consist of:
- one voice anticipating
- bass moving
- melody resolving
- inner tones following
- full voicing appearing later
So harmony is not merely vertical.
It has internal temporal structure.
