6.23A practical ear-training method

Take a simple song you know well.

Do not immediately sit at the piano.

First sing it.

Then identify:

  1. Where does the first phrase end?
  2. Does that ending sound final or open?
  3. Where does the second phrase end?
  4. Which ending feels more conclusive?
  5. Where do you hear the strongest pull back home?

Only then go to the piano.

This trains musical understanding before finger-searching.
