7.38The “three-chord test”

For a simple tonal melody:

1. Find tonic.
2. Find IV.
3. Find V7.
4. Try to accompany the entire song with only those three.

If something is awkward, then add:

vi

and:

ii.

This is an excellent ear-training discipline.
