7.9Harmonic rhythm comes before chord choice

Before choosing exact chords, decide approximately:

• one chord per bar?
• two chords per bar?
• chord every two bars?

Take a simple melody.

First say:

I will try one chord per bar.

Then harmonize only the first important note of each bar.

This reduces complexity enormously.
