Another common approach combines major pentatonic with blue notes.
C major pentatonic:
C D E G A
Add E♭ as a passing blue note.
Now you get:
E♭ → E
while retaining a major character.
This often sounds more appropriate over major-key gospel/pop/blues than staying exclusively in the minor blues scale.
