77.102What “knowing the changes” really means
It does not merely mean:
I can recite every chord symbol.
It means:
- I know where home is.
- I know where the phrase is headed.
- I recognize dominant arrows.
- I hear temporary destinations.
- I know which chords are structural.
- I can recover if I lose a detail.
- I can phrase across the whole thing.
That is a much more useful definition.
