4.23Voice leading can create melody inside the chords
Suppose the top note of each chord is:
C → C → D → D → C
That's already a small melodic line.
Now choose different inversions so the top notes become:
G → A → A → B → C
Now your chord progression has a rising inner melody.
This is one reason good accompaniment sounds intentional.
The pianist is often controlling:
- bass line
- top line
- inner voices
simultaneously.
