4.8Voice leading in I–vi–IV–V

Let's use:

C → Am → F → G

C → Am → F → G

Start with:

C = C–E–G

C = C–E–G

Now Am.

Instead of root position A–C–E, use:

C–E–A

C–E–A

Now F:

C–F–A

C–F–A

Now G.

You could use:

B–D–G

B–D–G

Then back to C:

C–E–G

Look at the movement:

C chord:

C E G

Am:

C E A

Only G moves to A.

Am:

C E A

F:

C F A

Only E moves to F.

F:

C F A

G:

B D G

More movement there, but still compact.

G:

B D G

C:

C E G

Every voice moves only a little.
