12.34Melody must still fit
Suppose melody note is G over what was originally Am.
You decide to insert E7 before Am.
E7 contains:
G♯
but melody is G natural.
That can create a strong clash.
Maybe it's desirable.
Maybe not.
So you cannot blindly insert secondary dominants based only on chord progression.
Always check the melody.
