Write 32 bars for piano with one main melody and one recurring countermelody.

Requirements:

  • first 8 bars: counterline appears only in melody rests
  • one held melody note with active chromatic inner line
  • one contrary-motion passage
  • one parallel-third/sixth passage
  • one guide-tone-based secondary line
  • one suspension resolving late
  • one anticipatory counterline note arriving before a chord change
  • one motif-derived counterline
  • one section where the countermelody disappears entirely
  • one transformed return near the ending
  • one final moment where melody and counterline converge in unison or octave

The listener should always know which voice is primary.
